Job seeking
How's your job seeking brand? Can they guess who you are?
Trevor Churchley ·
Guess Who? is a great game, unless you're a job seeker with a weak brand. I ask how confident people are in their elevator pitch.
When we're online, most people answer with an emoji, either the thinking face because they're not sure, or the thumbs down because they already know it isn't good. When we're in person, they go quiet.
I run Job Seeker Cafés and Hustle Game Boot Camps regularly, and most people will admit their pitch is weak and that they know they should improve it. They don't.
I take that as a sign they haven't worked out their brand. It shows in the resume and the LinkedIn profile as much as the pitch.
In Guess Who? each player flips down faces with yes or no questions until one is left. Hiring managers and recruiters are playing something close to it with a stack of candidates. If you can't describe yourself clearly, they have nothing to ask about, and they won't spend the time working you out. That costs good people opportunities.
