AI hype? Dot Com bust? History repeating?

Is history repeating itself. That's the question every AI pitch in my inbox seems to be answering without meaning to, and I lived through the dot com boom and bust once already.
Someone messaged me last week saying our businesses were perfectly aligned. They'd addressed it to Talentology AU. That's not even my company's name, so I'm not sure what they were aligned with.
Most days now I get pitched something new. AI resume writers promising a better ATS score. AI interview tools that coach the perfect performance. Application assistants that fire off fifty applications in half a minute and promise ten interviews by Friday. LinkedIn writing tools that guarantee engagement and deliberately misspell a word here and there so the post reads more human.
The resume writers get under my skin the most. You know what I'm talking about Heath Brennan. Improving your ATS score isn't actually something recruiters are marking you against, whatever these tools promise.
Most of the people pitching me aren't recruiters. They haven't worked in recruitment. A lot of them aren't job seekers either. My guess, and it's only a guess, is more than ninety five percent of the AI recruitment pitches landing in my inbox come from someone who's never done the job they're building software to replace.
In 2001 everyone had an app idea. A torch app, a to do list, a game, ninety nine cents on the app store and you were supposedly about to be a millionaire because everyone would want one and some venture capitalist would fund it. Most of those people had never built software before either. Then it all came apart quite quickly.
I wonder, how many of these AI recruitment tools will still exist in two years, or even 2 months.
